Small Animals
The Hunterville Vet Club covers all routine small animal services provided by city practices. Our strength is in areas of working dog health especially traumatic injuries and orthopaedic cases. Our experienced staff are also very capable with all soft tissue surgery and all sick animal case work ups. We are fortunate in being handily located to two diagnostic laboratories in Palmerston North and with our daily courier provider we have an efficient turnaround time on results from diagnostic samples.
Furthermore, New Zealand’s only Veterinary School “Massey University” is located in Palmerston North. On staff are many specialists in their field providing a fantastic phone consultation and also referral service.
We also offer long term kennelling facilities for difficult cases or where outcomes can be improved through 24 hour control of the dog.
Dairy
All of our vets have significant experience in the area of dairy cow health and production. We work closely with clients in the areas of reproductive performance, mastitis and lameness, control and treatment, herd health and basic cow nutrition. We also supply AI services to some members.
Deer
We offer a service where all basic deer farming demands can be dealt with. Ultrasound equipment is available for accurate pregnancy testing of herds. Martin and Jordan are certified TB testers. We also certify licensed farmers for velvetting and prepare them for audits.
Sheep and Beef
Our staff are very familiar with our local region and are up to date with all animal health issues on farm. We provide knowledge and skills not only in all production animal health cases, but also whole farm management.
Our ‘Over the Counter’ sale products; drench, dips, some vaccines etc. are all very competitively priced for our Farmer members. This is a particular strength of our cooporative vet based business.
Our particular skills are in Breeding Bull Soundness Testing, reproproductive programmes, whole farm animal health programmes, and farm advisory services based on the experience of Martin who farms significant land interests of his own.
We have a Large Animal Technician available for castrations, hormone implanting, dehorning etc.
We also have a sheep conveyor with labour available for hire at discounted rates to members purchasing product with us.
We have cattle and lamb weigh platforms available for hire along with other animal health and handling equipment that can be hired from us.’
Equine
Gary covers all basic equine work, lameness work ups, wound management, sick animals, etc. Jordan and Martin also have basic equine skills and experience.
Equine Dentistry
Good equine dentistry to remove sharp edges, hooks, and problem wolf tests will result in a more mouth comfortable, balanced, and happy horse when ridden. All horses will have improved chewing of food following good equine dentistry and this will help body condition due to better food utilisation.
Gary is a veterinarian who has a special interest in equine dentistry and has many clients in the Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Rangitikei and Wanganui. He thoroughly enjoys doing good equine dentistry, the benefits of which have been noted by horse owners as well as several prominent equine therapists working the North Island. By word of mouth we have a rapidly growing client base in this area.
Retail
Our shop is staffed Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm. Most of our staff have been employed in the business for many years and have an excellent understanding of our client’s requirements. We also endeavour to have a veterinarian on site or in contact at any time to assist with any questions that clients have.
We work hard to ensure that our customers get the products that best suit their individual requirements. This means user friendly, high quality, cost effective products that deliver the results required.
We back our products up and are only happy to investigate any issues that may arise. We believe choice is important and carry a range of brands. We have available or can access all animal health products and equipment. We also order nutritional products – minerals, feeds, supplements when required. We offer an eartag ordering service with most brands
