It appears people are just starting to wake up to what is actually involved with meeting the demands of this programme. I trust all those calves picked up from dairy farms have been downloaded off the dairy herds and onto your records, and that you have confirmed your purchase of cattle since the scheme started!!
Well done if you have – you will be in the minority. It appears to me this scheme has been largely designed by people behind desks who fail to understand how farmers actually work. I still can’t see the point of having a biosecurity scheme for cattle when virtually all the diseases of major significance (ie foot and mouth etc) are also a threat to other species (ie sheep, goats, pigs). I guess it will only be a matter of time until these species are also targeted. Alternatively farmers need to make the interested parties and politicians very aware of their views in some united format (or prepare to tag your sheep).
